Questions

Answers from our documentation

Short answers about adoption, payments, hives, habitat, and bee data. Nothing here is a promise until it appears in an approved offer.

The basics

  • What does adopting a hive mean?

Support or adoption is purchase or support under the selected offer. It does not transfer hive ownership.

  • Do I own the hive?

No. Support does not transfer legal ownership of the physical hive unless a separate agreement says otherwise.

  • What is a Hive Note?

A Hive Note is a verified public update about a hive, campaign, or community. A publisher reviews notes before publication.

Money and benefits

  • Is my support a donation?

We operate Save The Bees as a for-profit company. Payments are not charitable donations and are not tax deductible unless we identify a separate eligible partner.

  • Do I get honey?

Campaign support does not automatically include honey or pollen. A product benefit only applies when the purchased offer includes it and creates an explicit fulfillment entitlement. Program honey ships from one central warehouse when an offer includes it.

  • Can I pay today?

Payments are not open on this site yet. Calls to action here collect interest only and state that we collect no payment.

  • What happens if a campaign misses its goal?

A funding campaign must explain the failed-goal policy before it accepts payments. Refund and campaign-failure rules must appear before checkout and in policies.

Hives and habitat

  • Why keep honey bees and native bees separate?

Managed honey bees and native habitat work are separate. Honey-bee economic activity helps fund habitat, plants, nesting resources, monitoring, and education for wild bees. We do not present a managed hive alone as native-bee conservation.

  • Will you publish the exact hive location?

The general area may be public. The exact hive location may stay private.

  • Can I start a hive or volunteer?

You can volunteer now. The Volunteer page shows how your time helps and leads to the form. Volunteering is free and never requires payment. You can send a Start a Hive request. The Start a Hive page opens the form. Start a Hive creates a community campaign for a professionally managed hive and does not make you the beekeeper without review, host arrangement, and qualified care.

Bee data

  • What do the species numbers mean?

Documented species counts are evidence-based minimums, not population estimates. Low counts may mean data gaps, not few bees. Species totals are not a measure of conservation impact.
